Materials:  Text; small items for Black Box activity (adaptation)


Greeting- 2 minutes
Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat (some or all)
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohaseyo, Sambaino, Kiola, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.

Chant/Review Activity- 15 minutes
Blackboard-
What’s this (animal, sport, food, number, sound)? Clap-clap X3   
It’s (a) OO!
(to the side) 1. Draw  2. Gesture 3. Point 4. Sound 5. Feel 6. Explain
ALT- Demonstrate all the methods of explanation done until now-

  1. Draw line-by-line
  2. Make Sounds;  
  3. Gesture
  4. Point to an object or picture;
  5. Feel-Black Box Activity Adaptation (using a textbook). 
  6. DO ALSO- Explain (giving clues) in EASY English.
Students- Tell (or better, ASK), in Japanese, what kind of explanation is done each time.
HRT- Write the different ways to do the explanation on the blackboard in Japanese. DISCUSS which is easy or difficult.
Notes:
Draw (one line at a time)- banana, 127, snow (jagged lines, then mtn. last)
Sounds- keys on keychain, bird song (whistle), pen clicking
Gesture- swimming, eating natto, 4
Point- (objects in classroom) TV, CD player, etc.
Feel- (hide in fold of text) dice, rubber band, ....
Explain- elephant, sushi, wristwatch

Janken 4’s- Warm-Up/Review/Conversation Skills Practice- 10 minutes
ALT/HRT: Janken and do the conversation first together, then with a few students to practice/demonstrate.
Students: Each student Janken and Converse with 3 others in groups of 4. Use one of the methods of explanation just shown.
Blackboard:   
W) What’s this?
L) Guess the answer.

Silhouette Quiz-I- 5 minutes
Text- page 48
Students- Seat pairs play Janken, winner asks ‘What’s this?’, Loser answers.
ALT/HRT-Ask students what the shapes are on page 48 (1-rabbit, 2-yacht, 3-crow, 4- butterfly)

Make a New Silhouette Quiz- 5 minutes
Text- page 49
Students- draw a shape in each box (2).
ALT/HRT- Introduce activity, help students.

Silhouette Quiz-II- 5 minutes
Materials- text with drawings, page 49
Blackboard-
W) What’s this?
L) OOO!
Students- in Moving Pairs, play Janken and do conversation using drawings on page 49.

Wrap-Up- 3 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on the blackboard, and ask if anybody can see the mistake.) Or-
HRT to Students, in Japanese:
-What did we talk about today? 
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?

Closing- 1 minute
Students: ‘Thank you! Good bye!’
Teachers: ‘You’re welcome! Good bye!’
